Rohit Sharma commenced his cricket career for the first time when he started going to a cricket camp in the year of 1999 which was paid by his Uncle’s money. At the camp, he was coached under Dinesh Lad who also adviced Rohit toswitch his school and start to attend Swami Vivekanand International School. Dinesh Lad advised Rohit to do so, as he was the coach of this school and also believed that it had a lot better cricket equipments and facilities compared to his old school. Rohit recollects in his mind about this incident when he told Dinesh that he couldn't afford it, but then Dinesh Lad, who was impressed by Rohit’s skills, helped him to get a scholarship. And this happened which finally allowed Rohit to play and study there for the next four years without spending a penny from his pocket.
In return, Rohit also performed well in the contest and improved his cricket. Actually Rohit’s career didn’t grow as a batsman in its initial stage but he was seen more as an off-spinner who was considered as a backup batsman, who can be called to play at the end. But observing Rohit’s batting stance, Dinesh Lad started recognising his batting ability and put his believe on him, putting him from number eight to directly going and open the innings. As a result, Rohitjust went amazing in the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket tournament, where he scored a century on his debut match as an opener.

The Chief selector of that season, who was M. S. K. Prasad reasoned out his natural game abilitywhich totally suited the bouncy Australian pitches. Rohit played his first international test match in Adelaide, where he scored an innings of 37 runs and then just 1, but it ended in the Indian Victory.
