Introduction:

Born in Switzerland, Roger Federer is a professional tennis player withholding numerous ATP records and is reflected as one of the most prominent tennis players of all time. One can see the excellence and true potential of Roger in the collectiona of his triumphs and honours which include 102 career ATP titles and 20 Grand Slam titles. He is also the founder of the Roger Federer Foundation that started in 2003 and dedicates towards accommodating education programs for students subsisting in poverty in Africa and Switzerland.  

Currently, Roger holds the third rank in men's singles tennis by ATP which is abbreviated as Association of Tennis Players. Moreover, Roger is the only Tennis player who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, in the entire history of men's Tennis. Not only this, Roger has been ranked first by ATP for the longest time of 310 weeks (237 in continuation) and finished "year number one" for five times.  

Early Life:  

Roger Federer's father, Robert Federer, belonged to a Swiss-German family and her mother was from South Africa. Since both, his parents belonged to two different countries, and so Roger was granted citizenship of both these countries. Moreover, in his family, he had an elder sister Diana, who is also the mother of a set of twins. He was known to be as "GOAT" which abbreviated for Greatest of all time.  

For every male Swiss citizen, military service was compulsory, and so Roger has to go through it as well. On the later runs, he was stated unsuitable and hence his military obligation was terminated. In exchange to this, he served in the civil protection force, where he had to pay 3% of his taxes income. According to Federer, his perfect hand-eye coordination is one of the most prominent reasons for him to excel in sports like badminton, basketball or even tennis.  

Federer married to another Swiss player Miroslava Federer who was also his teammate playing for Switzerland at 2000 Sydney Olympics.  

Roger Federer Foundation:  

Federer founded "Roger Federer Foundation" as an initiative in the year of 2003 to help out the needy students get the quality education and sports facilities so that they could contribute to the society and make the world a better place to live in. Federer also mentioned that this organisation is very imminent to his heart and his family.  

He brings up some specific products, and all its earnings are directly engaged towards the foundation. Along with the products they sell, some critical matches like the one between Nadal and Federer, also known as Match of Africa, raised more than $4 million for his foundation. This money helps to improve and develop the vulnerable lives of underprivileged children.  

Roger's friends, sponsors and family members have been actively participating in helping Roger in his remarkable philanthropic journey.  

Career:  

Federer's chief accomplishments started from Wimbledon in 1998, where for the first time, he won both the boys singles final and the doubles teamed with Olivier Rochus as well. Besides, Federer ended at the US Open Junior final losing to David Nalbandian in the year 1998.  

Federer joined the top 100 rankings 20 September 1999 for the first time. He started playing French Open where he defeated Spaniard Carlos Moya. He lost his first final match to fellow Swiss Marc Rosset at Marseille Open, 2000.  

In 2003, Federer finally converted his first Grand Slam singles title which was held in Wimbledon, where he beat Andy Roddick in a semifinal match reaching the final. At his finals, he played against Mark Philippoussis and beat him as well. During August, he missed the chance to rank number 1 in ATP for the first time if he could have reached Montreal Finals. He lost to Roddick in a tie-breaker round.  

This loss was not the only reason for his downfall. Some of the early loses costed him enough for his overall fall through.  

In the year of 2004, Federer acquired three Grand Slam singles titles for the first time in his entire playing career and matched the first person to do so after Mats Wilander. Mats Wilander did the same thing in the year of 1988. In the Australian Open, he got his major hard-court title came over Marat Safin, furnishing him the world's number one player for the first time. The second Wimbledon crown came to him after defeating Andy Roddick.  

Federer received 11 singles titles in his 2005 seasons. He also reached the landmark of 81 victories which was the most since Pete Sampras in 1993. He also recorded the win of 81-4, which is the third-best in the entire tennis history.  

Federer won 12 singles titles in his next year 2016, which is the most after Thomas Muster in the year 1995 and John McEnroe in the year 1984. He also recorded a win-loss of 92-5 in his 2016 season. He was able to make up till finals 16 of 17 times he participated.  

The only loss he had was against Nadal in the French Open. This match was when Federer clashed with Nadal for the first time in Grand Slam Final. After Rod Laver in 1969, he was the only to reach all four finals in the year. Federer beat Nadal in the Wimbledon Championships final, Marcos Baghdati in the Australian Open, and Roddick (2003 champion) at the US Open. Federer also reached six ATP Masters Series 1000 finals and winning 4 out of them.  

Achievements and Honours:  

  • He has acquired more Grand Slam tournament titles (20) than any other men's singles professional.  
  • He is the first person to reach ten consecutive and 31 in total Grand Slam finals.  
  • He also received men's double gold medal in 2008 Olympics and men's singles silver medal in 2012 Olympics. 
  • He has been ranked in top ATP rankings for most of his professional career.  
  • He also possesses the record for the most titles that are a total of six titles at the year-end tournament.  
  • Federer stood among the top eight players of the world for 14 years and two weeks continuously.
